find new forever homes for those that were unwanted or had lost their homes. BICHON FRISE RESCUE RANCH, Inc. A 501c3 Non-Profit, Corporation.
Our total placement of dogs for the year 2001 were 87, mostly Bichons, but with a few other little dogs thrown in here and there. We are proud to have placed that many rescues for the year.
Our average "stay" per rescue is about 3 weeks, giving us time to evaluate each dog individually in order to match them up with the perfect new "forever" home. We are proud of the families that gave these rescues homes, and those that helped support us through the year with their donations.
Our "Club 10" which was invented by Gail, mom to Lolli and Jojo, consisted of a $10 a month donation by supportive Bichon lovers. This $10 monthly contribution by many, added up to pay vet bills through the months and thus thru the year. So, don't ever feel your donation is too small to make a difference. Thanks to all of you for these contributions we have learned to rely on.
Special thanks to Dr Annette Stumpf and her staff who were there day/night/weekend and holiday, to assist us when needed. To Carol, mom to Molly and Mercedes, who thru her marketing of
Muffin, at her store in Glenwood Springs, and from her generous donation of hand crafted jewelry, raised thousands of dollar for our rescue efforts. To Kathy and
Mo our internet buddies, for their efforts on a Rescue Raffle, which raised money at a time most needed. To Bob and Dolores,
Ann and Aaron and Bonnie and her husband, for all their traveling on behalf of the rescues. To 9NEWS.com - Colorado's On-Line News Leader - Petline9 for their assistance in helping us place hard to place rescues, and to Animal Planet for making us famous, not just once, but twice with coverage on Breed All About it and on Busted!
And to those who continue to support us with their emotional encouragement, and with their words of praise...Thank You! We couldn't make it without each one of you.
Now...for our success stories...
Rescues 2001---Rescues who have found new FOREVER Homes!
December 2001
Charlie: is a 4 year old owner turn in we got from a shelter in Glenwood. His family had to give him up because of aggressive behavior with large dogs. e convinced one of our contractors that he couldn't live without this guy.

Toby and Max came to rescue at the age of 4 when their dad developed allergies to them. We promised the little 10 year old sister we would keep them together. Not an easy task. But small miracle, we found two little girls with a dying mom, who wanted dogs for Christmas, and these two fit the bill since they were raised with girl children, and were housebroken. Yes, we do believe this work is guided from above.
Zack was a special needs Bichon
sent to us from Wisconsin via SmallPawsRescue.org when at the age of 10 he was
dumped in a kill shelter by his family. SPR adopted him out and sent him
to us since he had a slight problem biting the hand that fed him. We were
able to work with him, and found him a wonderful older lady to keep him where he
now gets regular walks, belly rubs, and all the human treats he loves to whine
for.
Anna is a 9
year old Bichon that came to rescue because of the Sept. 11, bombings. Her
mom worked for FBI and had to travel for extensive periods of time. She
was adopted by a wonderful older woman from New Mexico who wanted a lap
companion.
November 2001
Halle Belle
was adopted by a wonderful family after her family moved here from out of state
and the landlord would not let them keep her. She is very sweet and went
to keep company with a little Shih Tzu
Gideon:
Is a 1-2 year old male, that was left by the owners with a
"friend" while they went on vacation. Vacation turned into an
abandoned dog and the "friend" turned the dog in to rescue. He
is very sweet. and got adopted by one of our owners as a companion for
their little one year old spit-fire, "Miss Bea". I am sure there
will be a evening out of personalities with this match.
Romeo was a love. His
previous hu-dad dumped him at a shelter as he was jealous of the attention the
wife gave to the dog. He came to us scared of his own shadow : -
( His new family adore him. He has already
learned to heal when told, and is loving car rides and long walks. His new
hu-dad brings treats to him every day after work, and lies on the floor with
him. (no easy task considering the size of his hu-dad). He is now in
a very wonderful family. Yippeee!
.
Ozzie Osborn, came from a shelter, and went to live with a nice family
who's Shih Tzu needed a buddy as his Lhasa friend had died. Ozzie was sooo
skinny when we got him, we sure hope the new family can get him fattened up
soon.
October 2001
Kip
a one year old who came to rescue because his family had 2 other dogs and a
baby, and was too much to handle. He was adopted by a very nice couple who
looks forward to giving him lots of attention.
Jack: A Maltese who had a thing
for pant legs, came to rescue when he nipped one pant leg too many. He has
found a wonderful new home with this family - as mom wanted a lap doggie.
They already have two big outdoor dogs for dad, so it's her turn at a pet.
Pugsley and
Tucker here are cuddled up together. Pugsley aka Zach came to rescue when his
older Pug brother kept beating him up. As you can see, Tucker wouldn't
dream of hurting his new pal, and they are like an oreo cookie,
inseparable.
Edsil MacIntosh
(my husband picked out the name) got pegged a "viscious dog" and was
going to be put down at the local shelter. We went to see him, and talked
the shelter into letting us take him home. He ended up being a precious
sweet little guy, and went to live with a wonderful man and his wife who had
just lost his dog in death. They can now heal each others hurts.
Our camera was broke when Mack was
adopted. Mack was a Bichon who came to rescue when the older woman who
owned him had to go to a nursing home. Mack went to a nice couple who said
they would make sure he gets to visit his old Hu-mom whenever the family wants
to borrow him.
Jerry Lewis came to us from a Shelter. He is very high energy and will have lots of fund with his new Bichon brother. Hope his hu-parents are up for the joy of having two energetic Bichon blitzing thru the house. LOL
Dean Martin went
to live with a nice couple up in the mountains. They think he is really
something!
September 2001 was a VERY BUSY MONTH!
Maddie
is everyone's dream rescue. Young, female, housebroke, sweet...so we had
people from all over wanting to adopt her. We chose our deserving
family from among our internet friends. Max, a 10 year old Bichon,
(our Blanca's fiance for the last 3 years), needed a sister and Maddie was
perfect for the job. Amy will now have two perfect Bichons to spend her
life with.
Pedro was a 5 yr old OTI who
would not housebreak for his previous owner. An older couple just
fell in love with him and will devote time to getting this handled. In the
meantime, they did go home with one of Auntie Becky's karate belts, just in
case. Dad says he is a appliance repairman, and is looking forward to the
company, and will be taking Pedro on his rounds. (Hu-mom
called to let us know Pedro is doing wonderful. No potty accidents after a
whole week, and he and Hu-Dad are "bonded like
super-glue." Boy do we like to hear that..
Coconut is an 11 year old
rescue that Jennifer fell in love with off her internet picture. She then
had to convince her husband that she HAD to have her. But once Coconut
arrived, she jumped in hubby's lap, and well, the rest is history.
Crissy
got "re-adopted" when she came back in to rescue. She went to a
lady who has MS and needs a lap companion.
"Polo"
came in and went all in the same day. He was young and
housebroke, so we had tons of people on a wait list for him. He got to go
to a nice home with an older couple where the man works nights so his wife needs
a companion to keep the "boogie men away". Since Polo came to
rescue because he barked all day while his mom was at work, we think this is
going to work out real well.
Jezek was a dog we got from the
Shelter. He was real wild and crazy and has gone to live with some wild
and crazy boy and another wild Bichon. Hope mom is up to all of
this. He is shown here with his wonderful foster-family (sorry Bob, didn't
mean to cut off your head) as well as his new family.
Sassy also came from a shelter. When we went
to get Dino and Jerry, she looked at me with those big brown eyes, and I had to
take her with me. She is going to live with the grandma of the little girl
shown here and they promise to take her for lots of walks and give tons of
hugs.
Bogie and Sadie
(one of
our puppies) are going to go and live at Shalom Park Retirement community.
Shalom Park has been
waiting for almost 6 months for a "resident pet" to bring joy to the
tenants who are so lonely. Since we rarely get housebroke rescues, we were
happy to have Bogie come our way. We are sure this was a match made in heaven!
BB and PKs Puppies chose to donate Sadie who is a very
sweet mellow puppy. She will be able to grow up here and love everyone and
spread her little kisses to all those who need them.
This
is Tyson, a min-pin and Pistol Pete, a shih-a-wawa with their new family.
They will get to play and play (which they need) with these neat kids who live
in Evergreen and Pete will be cuddled by mom. We were so glad Tyson
finally got a home as he was a handful for us and our Bichons.
Chewbaca, a Shih-tzu-wawa, got adopted to
cuddle with this new family. They already have two Chihuahua's so the
think Chewy is a nice addition to the family. They wanted Tyson too, but
felt 4 dogs at present were just too many to take on. But they promised to
call soon as they got a bigger place, and if Tyson is still around, they will
take him off our hands.
August 2001
Batman was adopted by a family
that already have a red Pomeranian, and fell in love with this little cream
colored guy. He will be pampered as a pom-pet in a new home with new
brothers to care for him.
Robin really lucked out with this guy. He had
a Pomeranian that looked just like him, but his girlfriend took her when she
moved out. So, David was thrilled to open our website and see Robin
waiting here for him to adopt. And even better, Robin is much more cuddly
then his last pet, so he is really excited. He will be able to take him to
work daily as his boss doesn't care. Fun huh?
Kelly
Boy a darling Shih Tzu baby, was
adopted by a nice lady who had to put down her Pomeranian. Her
daughter flew in from out of state, drove her mom 2 hours to our place and then
drove back home with Kelly Boy. Mom and Kelly are doing wonderful.
Mom's friends had a welcome party for him, and he is getting loads of
attention and love. YIPPEEEE.
Lyra
is a 6 year old Shih Tzu She was adopted by a wonderful older lady who
bought her a sweater, and hat and bandana, a new collar and leash...and we just
know she is going to be spoiled rotten. Which is good, cuz she is soooo
cute and sweet she deserves to be spoiled.
Molly is
a 14 month old Bichon who was adopted by a home mom and her family of two boys
and hubby. They think Molly is tops! And live on acreage and Molly
will get lots of attention and love.
Suzie
came to us via Montana. Her
family took her to the vet to be put to sleep because she had some accidents in
the house and hotspots. The vet got permission for her to come in to
rescue instead. We found a family her within two days who are thrilled to
make her part of their family. They love her even with her faults.
Sugar also
came to us via a vet. Her family took her to the vet to be put to sleep
because she had bad knees and needed surgery. The vet got permission for
her to come in to rescue instead. They even did the surgery on her for
free. Aren't they wonderful!
July 2001:
Hanna
is a Shih Tzu who found a wonderful
lady who loves her to death! Takes her for walks and cuddles her lots and
lots. She is shown here with our little summer employee, KC. as our camera
is broke ... again.
This is Corkie, we thought he was a Yorkie,
but Yorkie Rescue said "NO WAY". He was found wandering loose in
downtown Denver, and was brought to us by the wonderful lady from Channel
9. We got him neutered and kept him almost a month before we could find
him a new home. He was adopted by a wonderful lady from Nebraska who is
excited to give him a new home with lots of love. She likes the Terrier
type dog, so they will be perfect together.
Crissy found this loving lady to take her
in and give her lots of love. Crissy is a 6 year old
Pekingese. Crissy will have lots of fun getting her new hu-mom
wrapped around her cute little paws. We already convinced her to go by
lots of treats from the local deli, and they bought her a new leash and collar
first thing.
Cuddles is a PomaTzu who ended up
in rescue when her hu-mom died suddenly. She has been adopted by a large
family who gives her lots and lots of love and attention. We had
over 30 phone calls from TV viewers wanting to adopt her when she was on PetLine
9 with us in June.
DD is a Maltese we got from a man who had owned her for 10 years and no longer wanted her. She was adopted by a wonderful older lady who thinks she got a wonderful new companion and is glad DD's dad let her go. Now DD gets to sleep in bed with her hu-mom, and goes everywhere with her.
June 2001:
This
is Yogi Bears new mom and friend. She had just lost a dog after 17 years
and was just heartbroken. She went to the dumb friends for a dog, but they
didn't have one for her, and someone gave her our number. When I forgot to
call her back, her friend looked us up on the internet and the "Popped
Over", and ended up adopting Yogi. He will be such a cuddle-bug for
her, I am sure he will help heal her hurt.
Barkely found a new forever home with a nice Professor lady who will take him
for lots and lots of walks. He picked her as his new mom by going right up to
her when she arrived. Something he had not done with anyone else (except
Tessa's Daddy). He came to us all the way from Montana, and has been
bounced from home to home so his new mom promised him lots of security so he
won't be unhappy any more.
May 2001:
Rosie
is a little female rescue who's family did
not have enough time for her, so we found a new family with lots of time!
And a Labrador sister too!
Ed Earl was
the last of the Wiggins Triplets and got adopted as company for the fuzzy
Bichon and her mom. He is not housebroke, because he was never neutered,
but Pam promises to be very patient and teach him the rules of the house.
I am sure he will behave very nicely for his new family. We had a long
talk, and he agrees he wants to please them.

This is Tanya (with her foster mom) who was adopted by a wonderful family from Albuquerque. They came to get a look at their new puppy, and took Tanya home. They have always had lots of dogs, and think Tanya is pretty neat. They will be terrific new parents, as they love Bichons and have always had one.
April 2001: Was an incredibly busy month. We had over 10 OTI's (owner turn-ins) between the 1st. and 15th. Almost all of them were senior citizens. The young ones we were able to place right away. As you can see. But Channel 9 allowed us to be on their PETLINE 9 program and we adopted out 3 of our hardest rescues in the same day! Thank You PETLINE 9!
Tory was part of a 3 dog rescue from a divorcing
household. She was adopted due to our spot on PETLINE 9, from a family
clear up in Cheyenne, Wyoming! They wanted DD the Maltese, who Janae
(our daughter) wants to keep, so we convinced them to visit Tory instead.
They did and the daughter fell in love and I think they will be all very
happy.

Cubby
came to us via the Dumb Friends League. Heather, the wonderful volunteer
there, called us to take this little 1 1/2 year old Bichon in to rescue as he
had been to their place twice in less than 6 months. She was worried about
him finding a new home, as he had snipped at the groomer. We found a
wonderful single lady who wanted a Bichon from the moment she saw us on PETLINE
9, and who had called almost every day hoping to adopt. She has not kids,
so no risk for him with her, and she wants to learn to groom him herself, as she
knows it is traumatic for him. She is a sub-contractor, so can spend
oooodles of time giving him lots of love and attention. Thanks
Heather! We think he will be in his forever and ever home now.
Snowflake came to us with a liver condition. She had eaten 2 pounds of valentines day candy in 1990, and developed liver shunts, she was not expected to live. Her original family went to great expense financially and emotionally in caring for her, keeping her alive when the vet said she would never survive. Unfortunately a change in family circumstances in Snowflakes family occurred, so they put her in our care. They left here with tears in their eyes, and a very heavy heart, checking back often to see how she was doing in her new "temporary home". Thankfully, Petline 9 helped us find a wonderful new family to adopt her. They have a cocker-poodle mix who is on special diets that will fit in to Snowflakes need perfectly! And one of them is a nurse, so is very smart about lots of different ways to treat illness. They are truly dedicated to their doggies and she will be treated as the princess she has always been. Thanks to both families in loving her enough to look after her when the vets said it couldn't be done. The power of LOVE!
Frisbee Wiggins was part 2 of the 3 dog OTI. When she was around Ed-Earl, she was
totally submissive and scared. Thanks to Petline 9, she was adopted by a wonderful couple
who had to put their dog down not too long ago, and when they took her for a
walk without Ed-Earl, she was frisky and cuddly and very bichon-like. So
we are glad she got a new home without her brother. Sorry Ed.
Buster Wiggins- 10 or so- is the fuzzy guy on the left, was adopted first.
There were three brought in all at once! He was put in foster care
for a few days, and then found a new forever home with a wonderful older couple
who's other older dog need a friend. They are learning to be companions
for each other, but it is a slow go, as both were with their previous
"family" for a very long time.
Lacey is here with her old mom, and her new-human sister. She is being
adopted to keep the lady's mom company, as she is a new widow and her current
Bichon is deaf, so the new adoptive mom wanted a "watch-Bichon" who
would bark if someone came around the house. Lacey will get lots of walks
and have a new Bichon brother to hang out with. And her new hu-sister will
give her love too. Poor old mom, will miss her very VERY much, but Lacey
did not like her old hu-sister and really needed a more quiet home.
.
This is Andrea with his new hu-mom and family, and his new Bichon sister, Trixie*.
They decided she needed a playmate, and boy did they pick good! Andrea
love his toys, and he and his new sister will have tons of fun playing ball with
the hu-kids.
This is Ozzie, before we shaved him naked. He was adopted by a
Powdersnow and family, for her to have a new playmate.
On the left is Pascal
with his new mom and
brother. The two boys are almost the same age and are going to be great
friends, I can just tell.
March 2001:
This is Busie aka Buster, he was given up for adoption as he was not getting much attention at home and they wanted him to have more, sooo we found this wonderful family for him. David, was in a car accident and needs someone to keep him company during the day, and someone to take walks with him while he recovers. David lives with his grandmother (the sweet smiley lady in the picture) and his mom, who works from home. So Busie should never be left alone again. Yippeeeeee!
SOLO, a 1 year old
Bichon was adopted by a wonderful family who will give him lots of walks and
tons of hugs, and so much attention he won't know what to do with
himself. I told him to be a good boy and get potty trained real
quick, so he doesn't have to come back in to rescue. Hope he listens.
February 2001:
Started out with Ms. Suzie Q and Greg as guests on http://9news.com/pets/petline_sat.htm:
Ms. Suzie Q:
(with hu-dad Steve)
Was adopted by Mercedes (Sadie) and her mom (Carol Lee). They drove almost 3 hours down a snowy mountain to come get her. They are sooo excited. She will be the other resident meet and greet puppy at the jewelry store that hu-mom has at a ski resort hotel. Sadie, also a Bichon Rescue, has had that position the last year, and now will teach Ms. Q the ropes. We are sure she will get lots and lots of attention and love from both family and visitors. Mom said she is ordering both girls a 14K collar and ID tag. Hey Mom, Dad, you spell our name P-A-M, and our neck size is...we can do gold, or platinum...LOL
Was left at a shelter with information that stated he was not good with kids, cats, and was aggressive. He is listed as 10+ years old, and his future was not so bright. Some very nice people nabbed him from the shelter, rather than risk the possible consequences of the information provided about him, and he was transported to Auntie Becky for foster care while everyone looked for a new home for him. One was found here in Colorado these wonderful people who have another 11 1/2 year old Bichon Beau (who is gorgeous I will add) who's Bichon brother had just passed away. Both family and Beau were heartsick. So... when they found out about Peppe, they jumped with joy to be able to add him to their household. He was perfect for their broken hearts. Don't you love a happy ending?
January 2001: The year started out Very Busy!
A 4 month old Bichon-wanna-be, who was sold from a pet store as a Bichon. He does not look all Bichon though. Anyway, he was bought from the pet store from our wonderful Auntie Becky who hated seeing him in that awful environment, and she sent him to us and we found him this wonderful forever home. He gets to live with all these nice people and now has a Waterdog brother as well. We are sure they will all be great pals.

Tommy is a 1 year old Maltese. He was adopted by a lady who just loves him. She was trying so hard to decide between him and Dennis the Menance... His winning cuddled made the choice for her.
Sugar (on
the left)
Is probably Pomeranian or a Pom/Mix. She was adopted by a family to keep their other Pom/Chiwawa mix company. They think she is really neat!
Jasper & Jasmine,
were given up together for adoption as their parents felt they left them alone
too much and that they needed a more stay at home family. Jasper was
adopted by one of our neighbors who also has a Pom and takes her for walks all
the time, so I know he will be pampered lots. Jasmine was adopted by
a wonderful older lady who
will spoil her rotten, take her on lots of walks and take her to obedience class
to learn some manners LOL
Here's Jasmine with her new hu-mom.

Sugar: was rescued from a local pet store as she was so sick Rebekkah (who already owns one Bichon) could not stand to see her there. She spent over a month trying to get her well, and it was not working. So she has asked us to take over. We got her on the right meds. and she recovered quickly and is now living with a new family who just adore her.
Alfie, new name Max,
was adopted and will be flown to his new hu-dad who is a widower who need the
love and cuddles of Max to bring joy back in to his life. He is shown here
with his new hu-grandaughter and hu-daughter, who adopted him for his new
owner. I know it will be a happy every after ending with lots of walks and
loves.
Buttons was brought in to rescue with her brother Cody. They are both 6 years old. Buttons has a catarac in her right eye and will be cared for by her new hu-family and will enjoy the company of a new Bichon sister. Everyone is very happy with the new arrangement. Hu-mom because Buttons is so cuddly, and Amy Bichon because she now has a new sister to hang out with. And hu-dad is happy all his girls are happy.
Cody is now going to be
the "lap dog" of his new hu-sister. She wanted a lap dog for
company. Cody also has a new Labrador sister he can hang out with
too. And I think he will get lots of attention from everyone.
