2008 Pomachon Fuzzypups Picnic

Held June 21, 2008

Our tally indicates that there were 19 families, and a total of 35 dogs (lots and lots of "BB & PK's Fuzzypups!") in attendance. We are hopeful that all had a fun day in the sun with other friends and family.

As always, happy faces greeted us this year with Virginia & Crystal manning our registration table

Virginia brought along her Pom "Sassy".

Our favorite MC, Rick Bishop his wife Sherry and Pom Tally, were unable to attend this year.  Many noticed their absence.   But health issues keeps them out of the sun so...

my brother Mike and his Shih Tzu "Munchkin" filled in:  Both dressed appropriately for the challenge - which was even more challenging when our PA system refused to work.  Thankfully, Mike has a voice that will carry over a crowd.

A new event was sponsored by Elaine Holt of "Alpha Dogs".     She set up an Obedience Rally.    I came in 2nd Place, with Bushka & Maggie, who are seen here in what many referred to as their "lady of the evening" gowns.  We later changed into more appropriate dresses (see below)   PS:  Like the hat???  At 50, I now qualify to wear purple

1st. Place Rally winner was earned by Shih Chon - Angel Work, (shown here in costume with her sister Leia)and her mother Sally.   Sally didn't beat us by much, and since we had 2 and she only one we thought we should divide our time in half and that would make us the winner... you decide.

Patty of "Patty's Pet Photography" volunteered to again attend and take photos for any owners who wanted to participate in her photo special.   She took lots of the below photo's for our use on the webpage as well.  Thanks Patty!

After the Rally, we all stopped to enjoy BBQ cooked up by Kennny, my darling other half.   Even he had a great time.   As an FYI,  The "Meal Deal" is another way we raise money for our rescues at the picnic.  By selling hamburger/hotdogs, chips, pop and cookies purchased by donated funds from Rick Bishop and his friends Mike & Mary, we were able to raise additional funds at this event.

After lunch we raffled off a bunch of stuff where every ticket was a winner!    We even had stuff to bring home to continue the raffle through the year as an additional means of fund-raising with our boarding and puppy clients!  Thanks to all who donated and especially to our "Coors Connection" Tara and David and Cindy Chadwick from "Life is Good".   Our picnic is the only place we know where every ticket sold is a winner!

After a nice lunch and rest, costumes were donned by the majority of dogs who attended...

1st Place going to Michelle with her "cowgirls" Shih Chons Pepper and Sunshine

2nd Place went to Bichons -

Macy & Lola - dressed as Hawiian dancers.  Carol rushed down from Vail with her friend

Nancy and Nancy's 2 Pomeranians Elliot & Charlie Buckett:

3rd Place was won by Pomeranian "Stella" who is new to this crowd, but made a Majestic Appearance with her owners Judy & Mike

And we had to award a prize to Shih Chon, Charlie's unique costume:    The Courtesy Family brought him before and after the picnic.  It's tough to look this cute all the time.

Other costumes which definitely deserve mention:

- Teddy Bear Shih Chon "Cash"  and

his Butterfly Shih Tzu Sister:  Becca.  Owned by Amanda Tracy and her mom, Kim Ingle

Barney & Baxter, Bichons owned by Heidi & Joe Gordon,

Pomeranian "Buddy Chick" loved by owner Pauline a member of the Denver Metro Pom Club

Our own Batman Captain - Shih Tzu proudly owned by employee Jill Bott

"Madam Butterfly"  Shih Chon dressed as herself - before her upcoming shave down for the summer.  She owns John & Dina, who absolutely think she is worth being owned by.

And here is Munchkin in his full costume with Briahna who came to volunteer to help just because it sounded like a fun thing to do.

Other "attendees" who missed being photo'd were:  Susan Steinberg and her 4 Poodles, Bill, Bob, Buddy and Beau, always a fun crowd.   Lucy, Bichon owned by Joanne Bell;  Brewster, Frankie & Johnnie, owned by Tony & Lisa Kitredge, who have attended our picnics since 2001, Casey, Bichon owned by Terry Rowan;  "Max" Shih Chon owned by Sue & Chuck Peck - who got their Christmas card photos taken by Patty;  Millana, Shih Tzu and Maxie, Lhasa both rescues owned by Gena & John Betzer, Misha a Border Collie mix, Rys a Tibetian Spaniel & Red Bandit a Pom owned by Hariet Weisenthal;  Chloe a Bichon owned by Mark & Jo Anne Carlson; and last but not least, Rosie & Deeto both older Bichons owned by Sharon Mansfield and her mother.

On average, with registration, "meal deal" and raffle ticket, each family donated  $57 to The Bichon Frise Rescue Ranch, inc.   This money will help us continue to care for dogs throughout the year.     Thanks to each family who participated!

Thanks to my Mother and brother who helped me at the event this year.

Maggie & Bushka say "THANK YOU!" for your support.   They had a great time, and hope you did as well.
